Conversion of FirstSQL to SQL Azure database

Target database is also known as SQL Server Azure.

We are using Full Convert Enterprise to convert

FirstSQL to SQL Azure.

Full Convert Enterprise is a very powerful database converter.

It is extremely easy to use, yet provides terrific customizations when you need them.

About FirstSQL

FirstSQL is a java in-memory database delivering the power of objects integrated with a relational database and SQL92. FirstSQL/J Java DB provides a sophisticated transactional relational database with SQL92 Intermediate level compliance. Beyond that, FirstSQL/J is the only RDBMS that stores native Java objects created from unmodified Java classes, Plain Old Java Objects (POJO), and methods to provide transparent object persistence supported with comprehensive, standard SQL manipulation.

About SQL Azure

SQL Azure (formerly SQL Server Data Services and later SQL Services) is a cloud-based service from Microsoft offering data-storage capabilities (similar to those of Amazon S3 and Amazon Relational Database Service) as a part of the Azure Services Platform. Unlike similar cloud-based databases, SQL Azure allows users to make relational queries against stored data, which can either be structured or semi-structured, or even unstructured documents.

Connection to source FirstSQL database

Initial screen shows you that Full Convert will automatically detect your database if you don't know which one do you have. Of course, if you do know your database, do select it from the list on the left.

  • We will choose ODBC from the list of available source databases, because FirstSQL is not supported natively at this moment. You need to have appropriate ODBC driver installed.
  • Full Convert makes it very easy to connect to any ODBC-enabled database. Just select the proper datasource from the drop-down, and type in your login credentials if needed.

Click on the Next button.

Connection to target SQL Azure database

List on the left shows all the databases which can be filled with your source database data. Select the one you need and fill-in required parameters.

  • From the list of available target database engines, we'll choose SQL Server, as SQL Azure is just a special version of SQL Server.
  • To connect to SQL Azure, you will need to use your server URL in the Server field, and the rest is standard (username, password, database name). Just make sure to connect using SQL Server authentication instead of Windows authentication.

Click on the Next button.

Table selection

We will select all source tables for conversion by default. In case you only need some tables, simply deselect the ones you don't need - or deselect all, then select just the tables you do need.

Click on the Next button.
